McLaren from the Inside

Fifty years after its founding, McLaren remains one of the essential teams in Formula One - and one of the most revered names in motor racing history. Tyler Alexander was there from the very beginning. After joining the new team as a mechanic in 1964, he soon played a critical role in creating its earliest cars, which quickly scored wins in Formula One and dominated the original Can-Am sports-car series. At the same time, Tyler was recording the team's progress through hundreds of vivid photographs taken during spare moments at the track and behind the scenes at the McLaren factory.

"McLaren From The Inside" collects the best of Alexander's images from two very different eras. Part I covers the team's formative years in the 1960s through black- and-white shots of Bruce McLaren and company building, testing, and racing cars in England and around the world. Friends and competitors are also included, among them such great drivers as Jim Clark, Dan Gurney, and Jackie Stewart, as well as team leaders John Cooper, Carroll Shelby, and Colin Chapman.
In Part II, Alexander captures the high-tech, hypercompetitive atmosphere of today's Formula One with images taken during the first decade of the 21st century. Along with a new generation of driving talent - Fernando Alonso, Jenson Button, Lewis Hamilton, Kimi Raikkonen - Alexander's lens also focuses on the designers, engineers, mechanics, and other team members who continue to make McLaren so successful today.

McLaren - The Road Cars 2010-2024

NOUVEAU

In 1992, McLaren Cars, an offshoot of the Formula 1 team, disrupted the supercar realm with the groundbreaking F1 road car. A hiatus in road car production followed until the establishment of McLaren Automotive in 2010, driven by a vision not merely to compete but to innovate and redefine performance benchmarks.

This dedicated volume unveils the saga of McLaren Automotive, a company that harnessed Formula 1 engineering, innovation, and radical thinking to challenge stalwarts like Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Porsche.
Readers will gain insight into McLaren Automotive's evolution through the perspectives of designers, engineers, aerodynamicists, and test drivers.
The book provides technical details, background narratives, and manufacturing data for all McLaren cars, complemented by comprehensive data tables and images from renowned automotive photographers.
Meticulously researched from McLaren's press archives and interviews with key personnel, this is the sole compendium dedicated to McLaren's road cars - a comprehensive exploration of a brand that has continually defied convention.

McLaren MP4/4 Manual (1988) - An insight into the design, engineering and operation

The McLaren MP4/4 is the iconic Honda V6 turbo-powered F1 car built by McLaren for the 1988 grand prix season, driven by Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost. Remarkably, the car won all but one race during the year, and took McLaren's new recruit Senna to his first World Championship after a season-long battle with team-mate Prost. McLaren achieved an astonishing ten 1-2 finishes with the car, and suffered only two car-related retirements during the season.

The MP4/4 is still statistically the most dominant F1 car ever built, taking pole position and victory in all but one of the 1988 season's 16 races, Senna taking 13 pole positions, and eight wins, with two poles and seven wins for Prost.

Pages du livre McLaren MP4/4 Manual (1988) (1)

Officially licensed from McLaren, and produced with their full cooperation and unique access to a race-winning MP4/4 chassis, this manual provided a unique insight into the design, engineering and operation of one of F1's most iconic cars, featuring input from the designers, engineers and drivers involved.

McLaren: The Engine Company - A History of McLaren Engines, Inc. and Its Successors

This is the previously untold story of McLaren Engines, an American company founded in 1969 by Bruce McLaren and his partners to build engines for McLaren's legendary Can-Am and Indy Cars. From this base in suburban Detroit were born the mighty big-block Chevrolet V8s that powered the iconic orange cars to two of their five consecutive Cam-Am championships.

McLaren's busy dyno rooms also spawned the howling turbo Offenhausers that put Mark Donahue and Johnny Rutherford in Victory Lane at Indianapolis three times between 1972 and 1976.
For decades this nondescript shop was the hotbed of horsepower for factories and top independents alike. McLaren Engines developed the turbocharged Cosworth DFV Formula 1 engine that powered Indy cars for both Team McLaren and Penske Racing. It rendered BMW's turbo engine for U.S.

IMSA racing that later became BMW's Formula 1 weapon. The long list of race engines developed here powered Buick Indy and IMSA cars, BMW GTP cars, Cadillac LeMans prototypes, Porsche Trans-Am 944s and David Hobbs' F5000 single seaters.
There were McLaren-built big-block turbo V8s for offshore boat racing and even a Cosworth-Vega engine for American dirt tracks!

Author Roger Meiners combines his life-long passion for motor racing and technology with his historian's sensibilities to make the engines, cars, and key personalities come alive within this book's pages. Ride along with Meiners as he uncovers little-known details of the company's transition from a race shop to an engineering company, developing lust-worthy performance cars such as the sensational 1987 Buick GNX, the 1989 Pontiac Grand Prix Turbo, the FR500 Ford Mustang concept, and other projects that the public never saw.
Today the company, known as McLaren Engineering, is a subsidiary of Canada-based Linamar Corporation, and is sought after by global automakers for its unrivalled testing, development and manufacturing capability.
