2020 marks the 40th anniversary of the Fiat Panda. So a title on this very important and so iconic car was almost necessary to be included in the ASI Library. The text traces the whole history of the "classic" Panda, the one built always faithful to the original project from 1980 to 2003: from the idea in the mind and then on the sheet of Giorgetto Giugiaro, its designer, up to the design, industrialization and finally the presentation on the market. Here it immediately revolutionized the way of conceiving the utility and "city" car: spacious, comfortable for five people and luggage, very simple to build, lively and always able to get out of the way in any situation ... a real and just "free spirit".

The book unfolds by dealing in depth with all four series and concludes with some reflections on the "Panda Phenomenon", because this is what it is: not only an economical car suitable for all motorists but a fundamental page of history, culture and contemporary society.

La Croma è stata una vettura anticonvenzionale, insolita, intelligente e accattivante ed ha permesso alla Fiat di giocare ai massimi livelli sui mercati internazionali nei "rampanti" anni '80.

Un buon progetto e un designer illustre a volte non bastano: la Duna è stata il più disastroso errore di marketing della storia della Fiat, trasformando speranze e convinzioni in risultati fra il fallimentare e il grottesco.
Ciò nonostante, dal punto di vista storico è un modello da riscoprire, contestualizzandolo ed osservandolo in uno scenario internazionale più ampio, che va dall'Europa al Sudamerica.

La Regata ha impersonato il ruolo di vettura di classe media nel complesso scenario degli anni Ottanta. La berlina è stata l'auto della borghesia più tradizionalista, sobria e moderna, ma senza eccessi.
La Weekend, al contrario, ha sdoganato definitivamente il concetto di station-wagon per il tempo libero, pratica, funzionale, ma al contempo elegante e un po' snob, perfetta per le famiglie più moderne.
