Ferrari 1960-1965 - The hallowed years

NOUVEAU

The subject of this book is Ferrari's racing history from 1960 to 1965, a period that was one of the most successful in the marque's history so far. In this era, which began with completion of the transition from front-engined to rear-engined configuration, Scuderia Ferrari won just about everything with a variety of iconic machinery that included the 'shark-nose' 156 and the fabled 250 GTO.

Driving Formula 1 Ferraris, Phil Hill and John Surtees delivered two World Championship titles in the space of four years. Ferrari sports cars racked up a string of six consecutive victories in the Le Mans 24 Hours, a feat subsequently surpassed only by Porsche.
This book covers this period in detail for the first time and exclusively features the work of one of the greatest racing photographers ever.

Forghieri on Ferrari - 1947 to present

Many of the Ferrari single seaters and sports racers that won world championships were born of the imagination of Mauro Forghieri and designed by him. This was the case with the John Surtees 1964 158 F1 and the unbeatable Ts of the Lauda-Regazzoni era.
The same can be said of the 250 P, the 330 P3 and P4, as well, naturally, as the 312 'PB', the unquestioned protagonists among the sports racing cars of the 1960s and 1970s.

The outstanding life of Mauro Forghieri is told in this book, there are many notable stories many of have remained unpublished for years, intertwine in an riveting narrative, supported by a wealth of previously unpublished illustrations, a large portion of which come from the publisher's archives.

Ferrari - Debutto a Caracalla

Ferrari 857S - The remarkable history of 0578M (Exceptional Cars)

Ferrari 857S chassis number 0578M personifies, if an inanimate object can personify anything, Italian road racing. During its first season the car mainly competed in its natural habitat, travelling abroad once and, while its first race was on the purpose built circuit of Monza, it is on the open roads, blasting through Sicilian villages or up spectator-lined mountains in the Valle d'Aosta region that one pictures this four-cylinder engined, evocatively shaped two seater.
Driven by some of the greatest sportscar drivers of the period including Hawthorn, Castellotti, Gendebien, Maglioli, de Portago, Trintignant and Phil Hill, 0578M was rebuilt as part of Ferrari's attempt to challenge Mercedes-Benz in 1955, competing in the Tourist Trophy and Targa Florio before racing at Buenos Aires and Sebring the following season, finishing second in Argentina.

This book:
- records a significant, yet unusual, period in which Ferrari used four-cylinder engines, not only to win the World Drivers' Championship but also in an attempt to remain competitive in sportscar racing.
- dhronicles the full racing history of 0578M including its time as a factory entry and subsequent seasons when it competed in privateer hands both 'Down Under' and in Scandinavia.
- is handsomely illustrated with evocative, period photos, plus a gallery of superb photographs of the car today, restored as it was at the 1956 12-hours of Sebring.
- includes profiles of all those who raced it, from serial Le Mans 24-hours winners to enthusiastic independents.

Sharknose V6 - Ferrari 156, 246 SP & 196 SP

The story of the mid-engined "Sharknose" Ferraris is one of glory and drama. Outstanding victories, such as winning the Formula 1 Championship in 1961 with American driver Phil Hill, are inextricably linked with profound tragedies - for example, the death of Wolfgang von Trips and fifteen spectators at the 1961 Italian Grand Prix in Monza. Newcomer Giancarlo Baghetti, on the other hand, is immortalized in the record books with three wins in his first three Formula 1 appearances.

The team's sporting decline in 1962, after a glorious season the year before with seven Grand Prix victories, is pure drama. Constant intervention in team operations by Ferrari's wife, Laura, drove away the entire leadership cadre of the Scuderia, around Carlo Chiti, leaving to 26-year-old Mauro Forghieri the daunting task of running the team's technical operations. Forghieri rose to the challenge and became one of the towering figures of motorsports.

Pages du livre Sharknose V6 - Ferrari 156, 246 SP & 196 SP (1)

While the monoposto 156, an icon in the world of Formula 1 and with irresistible styling by Fantuzzi, became a legend, the sports prototypes, also drawn by Fantuzzi, with their low weight and aerodynamically optimised shapes, had an enduring effect on the development of two-seat race cars in the years to follow.
They celebrated wins in the Targa Florio, on the Nürburgring, and in the European Hill Climb Championship.

This book, with many previously unpublished images from the archives of the incomparable Bernard Cahier, paints a detailed picture of one of the most exciting epochs in motorsports, and one of its greatest icons - the Ferrari 156, and its prototype siblings, the 246 SP and 196 SP.
