Bijna zestig jaar lang gold hij als verdwenen: de Porsche 356 met chassisnummer 5006, één van de eerste zeven sportwagens uit Stuttgart.

In 2013 bracht een telefoontje Thomas König en Oliver Schmidt naar een overwoekerde tuin bij Bremen. Daar bleek inderdaad de "oudste Porsche" te staan. Na een spectaculaire berging werd de wagen in jarenlange arbeid volledig teruggebracht naar zijn toestand van 1950.

König en Schmidt, oprichters van het Automuseum Prototyp in Hamburg, verzamelen al lang zeldzame Porsches. Deze vondst was echter één van de belangrijkste momenten in hun loopbaan.

Het boek vertelt het verhaal van deze ontdekking en restauratie. Porsche-kenners Thomas Ammann en Frank Jung leveren achtergrond en archiefmateriaal. De achtjarige restauratie is stap voor stap met foto's vastgelegd.
