Durchgeboxt - Die grosse Enzyklopädie der Kleinserien und Eigenbauten auf VW-Käfer- und Bus-Basis

Seit 1945 haben weltweit viele hundert Unternehmen, Bastler und Designer unzählige Spezial-Fahrzeuge produziert, die auf dem Chassis des VW Käfers oder des VW Transporters, anfangs auch auf dem Kübelwagen-Fahrgestell basierten.
Es entstanden zum Teil abenteuerliche, zum Teil atemberaubend schöne Kreationen - Coupés, Cabriolets, Pickups oder auch Buggys. Schwerpunkte waren neben Deutschland und der DDR(!) die USA, Australien, Argentinien, Brasilien, Belgien, die Niederlande, Schweden, Italien, Österreich, Polen und die Schweiz.

Oft wurden diese Spezialmobile auch mit Porsche-Motoren ausgerüstet, teilweise im Design dem legendären Porsche-Typ 356, dem 550 Spyder oder dem 904 nachempfunden, manchmal sogar mit dem Segen des Stuttgarter Stammhauses wie im Falle des in der DDR entstandenen Lindner-Porsche.
Zu den renommierten Firmen, die sich der VW-Technik bedienten, gehörten Apal, Beutler, Rometsch, Hebmüller, Karmann und viele weitere. Unter den Herstellern waren auch Exoten wie Espenlaub, Dingo oder Feix. Bekannt für enorme Kreativität war auch die Meisterschule Kaiserslautern.
Heute führen Spezialisten wie Wittera oder Replicar Hellas die Tradition fort. Und Memminger hat das Käfer-Cabrio neu erfunden.

Der österreichische Historiker Dr. Thomas Braun hat in jahrelanger Forschungsarbeit alles zusammengetragen, was auf der ganzen Welt an Sonderfahrzeugen auf VW- und Porsche- Basis gestaltet und produziert wurde.
Mit "Durchgeboxt" ist ein Mammutwerk mit 448 Seiten, über 1750 größtenteils farbigen Aufnahmen und über 2000 Modellen von 470 Herstellern entstanden. Der Band ist damit die erste große Enzyklopädie zum Thema Sonderfahrzeuge mit VW- und -auszugsweise- auch Porsche-Technik.
