It was in 1919 that Ugo Zagato established Carrozzeria U. Zagato & C., a business that acquired great fame in just a few years among the numerous car manufacturers of the period, first of all Alfa Romeo, which entrusted the Milanese body stylist with designing and building the body of the unforgettable 6C 1750.

From then on, the famous marque became synonymous with style - not only in Italy - designing a series of masterpieces including the Lancia Aprilia Sport, the various Panoramic cars of the immediate post-war period, the Aston Martin DB4, the Alfa Romeo SZ and TZ, the Lancias Fulvia, Flavia and Flaminia and many more.
From the '90s Zagato re-emerged as an atelier, designing small production run cars and sometimes one-offs for its wealthy clients.

En 1919, le jeune Ugo Zagato ouvre à Milan son premier atelier de carrosserie d'automobiles et d'avions. Dans les années 1920, Zagato se spécialise dans le luxe et la compétition, devenant un partenaire essentiel de l'usine Alfa Romeo puis de la Scuderia Ferrari.
Après la Seconde Guerre mondiale, Zagato devient un acteur majeur du développement du Gran Turismo. Sous la conduite des fils d'Ugo Zagato, Elio et Gianni, le prestigieux carrossier milanais prend une dimension semi-industrielle.

Au début des années 1990, la troisième génération, incarnée par Andrea et sa femme Marella Rivolta, prend les rênes d'une entreprise en pleine évolution.

Aujourd'hui, le Zagato Total Design Studio, capable de produire aussi bien des supercars que des moyens de transport publics futuristes avec des technologies avancées, conserve aussi dans ses ateliers toute la créativité et la maîtrise d'un artisan de génie.

1919 was the year in which Ferrari began driving racing cars and Zagato founded his couchworks, and from that moment their paths were to cross on several occasion. Every time Zagato got his hands on a Ferrari chassis, even without the official blessing of Maranello, he succeeded in building a beautiful car.
