The Figoni Archive, comprising notebooks, vintage photos, and historical records, enriches the narrative of these iconic cars. Over fifty Delahayes, each featuring Figoni's distinctive coachwork, are meticulously detailed in the book. An appendix titled "Joseph Figoni's Designs and Drawings" presents numerous unpublished sketches.
Claude Figoni provides insights into his father's journey from humble beginnings to becoming France's preeminent coachbuilder, while Richard Adatto shares personal anecdotes of his experiences with car enthusiasts and the restoration community.

Marcel Pourtout: Carrossier

Pourtout is a name often mentioned as one of the greats of French coachbuilding. It was the company behind the rakish Darl'mat Peugeots of the 1930s and the famous 'Embiricos' Bentley. From modest beginnings, founder Marcel Pourtout - latterly working with designer Georges Paulin - created a respected business that bodied some of the world's finest and most interesting chassis.

When bespoke coachwork became a thing of the past, Carrosserie Pourtout was one of the few companies to survive. It moved on to fresh areas of activity. Quick on its feet, it thrived in a newly dynamised post-war France, whilst remaining a family business under the direction of Marcel Pourtout's second son Claude.

Extravagant publicity vehicles, notably for the 'Tour de France' cycle race, replaced special-bodied Hispano-Suizas and Delahayes. Then Carrosserie Pourtout became involved with ALM, for whom it created a cab body that redefined the image of the company's rugged trucks, these becoming a staple of armed forces around the world.
Finally it became France's leading converter of Peugeot light vans and a sub-contractor for the aircraft and oil-prospecting industries.

Written by award-winning author Jon Pressnell, this is the first history of Carrosserie Pourtout and has been compiled with the full and generous support of the Pourtout family.
Using surviving documentation from the archives held by Kévin Pourtout, it tells the complete story of this enterprising small business, from its inception in 1925 to its demise in 1994.

Encyclopédie de la carrosserie française

Carrossiers, constructeurs, écoles, stylistes, designers... les 500 acteurs de la création. Comme cela était annoncé dans l'avant-propos de l'ouvrage "La carrosserie française - du style au design", un deuxième volume devait suivre en s'attachant à inventorier, de A à Z, tous les acteurs qui se sont impliqués dans l'évolution de la carrosserie, de l'origine à aujourd'hui.

Le livre se divise en deux parties, la première consacrée aux entreprises, la seconde aux personnalités. Parmi les 350 sociétés présentées, on retrouvera la grande majorité des carrossiers qui ont été ou sont toujours en activité en France. Sont également regroupés les constructeurs qui se sont impliqués dans l'évolution de la carrosserie, sur le plan esthétique ou technique.
Pour chaque marque, on découvre la manière dont ont évolué les studios de style ou de design au fil des années. Les principales écoles de design et les fournisseurs de l'industrie automobile sont également cités. Parmi les 150 personnalités répertoriées, on découvrira les femmes et les hommes qui ont apporté leur contribution à l'évolution technologique ou esthétique de la carrosserie : stylistes, designers et ingénieurs.

Les carrosseries Henri Chapron

Henri Chapron startte in 1919 zijn koetsenfabriek, in het westen van Parijs. Hij werd snel beroemd om de kwaliteit van zijn werk. In de jaren dertig begon hij prachtige koetswerken te maken voor prestigemerken als Delahaye en Delage.

Na een verhuizing naar de 114-116 avenue A. Briand te Levallois-Perret tekende Henri Chapron sierlijke limousines, coupés en cabriolets, die in heel Europa beroemd zouden worden.
Later werd hij ook aangesteld als officieel leverancier voor de wagens van de Franse presidenten Coty, de Gaulle, Pompidou en Giscard d'Estaing. Nog altijd zijn in het Elysée twee SM's met Chapron carrosserie in gebruik.

Dit schitterende boek vertelt over een eeuw Chapron geschiedenis, van 1886 tot 1986.

Philippe Charbonneaux, esthète & styliste

Biografie van Philippe Charbonneaux (1917-1998), een Franse industrieel ontwerper die o.a. actief was voor de groep Delage-Delahaye, Rosengart en Renault. Eén van zijn bekendste creaties werd de Renault 16. Later zou hij in Reims een automuseum stichten. Dit rijk geïllustreerde boek bevat 300 unieke foto's.

Letourneur & Marchand Autobineau, maîtres carrossiers français

La carrosserie Letourneur & Marchand est un excellent exemple de durée et d'adaptation industrielles. De 1905 à 1998, elle offre un siècle de savoir-faire et de talent. Letourneur & Marchand seront les premiers à carrosser des automobiles à pétrole, et presque les derniers, en dehors de Chapron, Pichon-Parat et Heuliez, à exposer au Salon de l'automobile.

La qualité de leurs réalisations et l'élégance de leur style furent et restent reconnus. Des réalisations "bon chic, bon genre" qui font le bonheur des concours d'élégance internationaux et des ventes aux enchères de prestige. La carrosserie Letourneur & Marchand est un symbole du savoir-faire automobile artisanal français du XXe siècle.
