The Peugeot 204 made an impression with its large grille and cutting-edge design that resolutely turned its back on the tried and tested solutions of the 202, 203, 403 and 404 that had made the brand successful. The 204 was the revolution in Sochaux, the one that brought Peugeot into the circle of major manufacturers by considerably expanding its distribution. In France, the Peugeot 504 was popular as a comfortable family car, and also served as a taxi and ambulance. The all-wheel drive pickup and estate models were ordered primarily by forestry authorities and the fire service.
