Das Sportcoupé ist für Generationen von Autofahrern gleichermaßen Blickfang, Meilenstein, Kult und Traum. Er gilt als der wohl aufsehenerregendste Opel aller Zeiten. Und als Vorbild für heutige Modelle - allen voran für den GT Concept, der auf dem Genfer Automobilsalon im März 2016 Weltpremiere feierte.

"Als ich ein kleiner Junge war und den Opel GT sah, wusste ich: Wenn ich mal groß bin, muss ich dieses Auto haben. Diesen Wunsch habe ich mir erfüllt", sagt Ex-Opel-Chef Karl-Thomas Neumann.
Und Bob Lutz, lebende Automobillegende, 84 Jahre alter Kampfjet-Pilot und als junger Vertriebsdirektor bei Opel maßgeblich für den Serienstart des GT verantwortlich, lobt im Gespräch mit den Autoren: "Der GT hat einiges mit meinem Alpha Jet gemeinsam: Der Komfort ist nicht sonderlich gut, die Klimatisierung schwach, der Gepäckraum quasi nicht existent. Das ist aber alles nicht relevant. Eine Stunde im Jet oder im GT - und Sie fühlen sich rundum beglückt. Geradezu verjüngt."

"Nur Fliegen ist schöner" lautete so auch der Slogan für den GT. Ein Versprechen, das sich auch im Motorsport bewahrheitete. Und als experimenteller Diesel- und Elektro-GT fuhr die deutsche Antwort auf die Corvette sogar Weltrekorde ein.
