Ferrari 250 GT SWB - The Remarkable History of 2689 (Exceptional Cars)

The 250-series was an early Ferrari success story and in 1959 spawned one of the most recognisable sports cars ever built. It is now also one of the most coveted. The 250 GT Berlinetta (aka SWB, 'Short Wheelbase') had a dual role as supreme grand tourer and outstanding racing car.

Chassis 2689GT, the subject of this book, was purchased by amateur racer Pierre Dumay on behalf of his friend Pierre Noblet - who had written off his previous 250 GT SWB in an accident at Clermont-Ferrand. Shortly after taking delivery, Noblet and co-driver Jean Guichet took the new car to a class-winning third place overall in the Le Mans 24 Hours - the dawn of a relatively brief, but very bright, competition history.

Páginas del libro Ferrari 250 GT SWB - The Remarkable History of 2689 (1)

Key content:
- Chronicles the full racing history of 2689GT, including its notable start at Le Mans and victories at Monza and on the old street circuit in Brussels, and covers the wider racing successes of the 250 GT SWB.
- Outlines the engaging backstories 2689GT's principal drivers - Pierre Noblet and Jean Guichet.
- Includes profiles of some of the most influential engineers and designers in automotive history: Mauro Forghieri, Carlo Chiti and Giotto Bizzarrini all played a part in the 250 GT SWB's genesis.

The Spyder California - A Ferrari of Particular Distinction

Originally published in 1976, this is a complete chronology of the Spyder California (1958-1962) and the ultimate reference work for this model. Profusely illustrated, the author reviews the car in infinite detail and even includes information on its racing accomplishments.
There are detailed charts of engine specifications, transmission, axle and chassis specifications by individual engine number and chassis number. There is also a complete listing of chassis numbers and production dates for both the LWB and SWB series and these listings are cross-indexed to the appropriate photographs within the text.

An incredible effort by the author, it would be impossible to begin to estimate the hours of research that went into assembling the data and illustrations, truly a monumental accomplishment. The VelocePress edition presented here has benefited from the inclusion of an appendix containing reproductions of a selection of factory assembly sheets. In addition, it has been re-formatted from the original landscape orientation into a more conventional portrait format

Breadvan - A Ferrari to beat the GTO

Built as a Ferrari 250 GT Short Wheelbase Competizione, chassis number 2819 GT has become famous as the instantly recognisable 'Breadvan' - a fan favourite around the world. This book tells its full story, from being delivered new to sports car ace Olivier Gendebien and its 1962 conversion into the Breadvan by Count Giovanni Volpi di Misurata, to its recent appearances at Goodwood and Le Mans.

Written by renowned author Richard Heseltine, with contributions from Nicola von Dönhoff and leading Ferrari historian Keith Bluemel, it documents the development of the 250 GT Berlinettas, the 'Palace Coup' at Maranello that led to the birth of the Breadvan, and the car's racing career in the hands of aces such as Ludovico Scarfiotti and Carlo Maria Abate.

The book is packed with new research, such as confirmation of 2819 GT's appearances at Daytona and Sebring in 1962, as well as profiles of all the main players in the story and hundreds of archive photographs. Heseltine also documents Serenissima's life after the Breadvan, and brings the car's story up to date with its successful 'second life' in historic motor racing.

Features:
- History of the Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta, plus the racing life of 2819 GT before it was converted into the Breadvan.

Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta 'Tour de France'

The Ferrari GT Berlinettas are undeniably beautiful and, arguably, the greatest Ferrari racing cars ever built. The 250 GT Competizione Berlinetta - now popularly known as the Tour de France Berlinetta, in honour of the model's domination of the great French event with four outright victories - was the true forerunner of the series of cars which established Ferrari as a major force in sports car racing.

Here is the story of the development, building and racing of the Tour de France Ferraris. Importantly, the book also contains individual histories of the Ferrari TdF Berlinettas.
Out of print for many years, this classic edition has been reissued in paperback format, due to popular demand.

Ferrari 250 LM : The remarkable history of 6313 (Exceptional Cars)

The Ferrari 250 LM was born of controversy. Enzo Ferrari wanted this compact mid-engined coupe to qualify as a GT car for world championship racing. The FIA, motor sport's rule-makers, disagreed and this new model, of which just 32 were made, was forced to run as a sports-prototype in 1964 and 1965.

To everyone's surprise, the LM was to dominate the Le Mans 24 Hour race in 1965. 6313, entered by Ecurie Francorchamps, led for much of the race and finished second after a tyre failure in the closing stages. It was the high-spot of a busy season for a car that, 54 years later, is well-known as a successful contender in historic car racing.
