Ford and Fordson farm tractors: books - history and models

A book on Ford and Fordson tractors? Here are books on the history, models and technology of Ford farm tractors, including the Type H, N and E27N.

The Complete Book of Classic Ford Tractors : Every Model 1917-1996

First manufactured in 1917, Ford tractors (initially sold under the Fordson name, a contraction of Henry Ford & Son) were, thanks to mass production, the first affordable and reliable machines that allowed small farmers to replace draft animals. Though manufacture was exclusive to Great Britain by the 1930s, Ford tractors returned stateside with a roar in 1939 with the 9N, which incorporated the hitch system of Irish engineer and inventor Harry Ferguson.

In this book, tractor historian Robert Pripps provides a detailed and complete account of Ford tractors, from the earliest Fordsons to the Ford-Fergusons, the Ford N Series, and the Ford "World" tractors manufactured into the 1970s.
Amply illustrated, the book also offers extensive information on the numerous options and accessories, implements and variations that came out of Dearborn, Sherman Bros., and the great Funk Bros. hot rod conversions that could make each of these popular machines utterly unique. In between, the book traces year-to-year model changes within each series.

With content from Pripps' best-selling "The Big Book of Ford Tractors" and "The Illustrated Ford and Fordson Tractor Buyer's Guide", this work is supplemented with new text, data-packed specification boxes, and a largely new selection of incredible color photography and period advertising.
The only book offering comprehensive coverage of the breadth of collectible Ford tractors, "The Complete Book of Ford Tractors" is a must-have volume for every tractor enthusiast's library.

Ford Tractors

Beginning with the development of the first Ford tractors in 1917 and finishing in 1991 with the purchase of the Ford tractor brand by Fiat, this books tells the complete story of Ford and Fordson tractors.
Author Jonathan Whitlam covers the parallel development of Fordson tractors, made at Dagenham in Essex, with Ford tractors in the United States.

The first Ford tractor was produced in 1917 to help with agricultural production during the First World War and the Fordson Model N played a key role in the development of British agriculture up to 1945.
The Ford Major was launched in 1945, marking the first factory fitting of a diesel engine in a Ford tractor.
The book also covers the smaller Dexta models and the ground-breaking 1000 series. The 10, 30 and 70 series tractors incorporated a host of technological developments that would not only see the Ford tractor through to 1991 but also leave a legacy that is still appreciated today.

Forty Years with Ford Tractors

David Pearson spent more than four decades working for Ford's tractor business, starting on the production line at the maker's Dagenham factory before moving to the Basildon tractor plant opened in 1964.

He went on to become the maker's UK sales manager, and earned a reputation among farmers and dealers as the man who knew all there was to know about Ford tractors.
Along the way, he was involved in the development of some of the most famous machines to bear the blue livery, from the Dexta to the 7000, and the FW articulated tractors to the 7810.

Edited by agricultural journalist Martin Rickatson, "Forty Years with Ford Tractors" builds on a series of recollections which originally featured in Classic Tractor magazine, and includes additional material to tell David's fascinating story in full.
It includes a comprehensive selection of black-and-white and colour photographs, many of which have never before been published and will be of interest to all Ford fans and tractor fans more generally.
