Porsche Sports Racing Prototypes 1963-1971

NEW

Between the 1950s and 1971, long-distance endurance racing reached its peak, and Porsche emerged as a rising manufacturer. Step by step, the company moved from dependable class wins to overall victories, a position it would later secure for good.

This book examines six Porsche racing models built between 1963 and 1971: the 904, 906, 910, 907, 908 and 917. These cars competed in FIA Group 6 Prototypes, the Group 4 World Sportscar Championship, and European hillclimb events. The races ranged from 6 to 24 hours or were defined by distance, including 500 km, 1.000 km and 500 miles, at circuits such as Le Mans, Nürburgring, Monza, Spa-Francorchamps, Brands Hatch, Daytona and Sebring.

Covering each racing season, this richly illustrated book documents Porsche's many successes. It includes more than 300 high-quality images, many previously unpublished, from professional photographers and factory archives. Interviews with leading Porsche drivers add first-hand insight, and the foreword is written by two-time Le Mans winner Gijs van Lennep. Together, text and images tell the story of Porsche's rise from regular class winner to clear overall champion.

Porsche 904

The 904, its full name "Porsche 904 Carrera GTS", was a special Porsche model in many ways. Due to Ferdinand Porsche's unique design, the sports car is affectionately called "Butzi's masterpiece" and many still count it among the most appealing road racing cars ever.
In 1963 the Porsche 904 was brought to life in a record-breaking six months - including the time for development. And this is just one of the reasons that made the car a flagship of innovation.

For the homologation as a racing car, about 100 Porsche 904 were licensed as road vehicles and sold to private customers. The demand was so strong that the car soon became a highly exclusive rarity. The unique look of the Porsche design and the combination of technical innovations and low production costs added to the cult status of the Porsche 904 that lasts to the present day.

Texts by Jürgen Lewandowski and photos by Stefan Bogner, two renowned Porsche experts, build a monument to the Carrera GTS to make it come out of the shadows of its famous brothers. Immerse yourself in a fascinating chapter of Porsche history!

Illustrated book with extravagant slipcase: high-quality gift box for Porsche enthusiasts, with textbook.
