Porsche Legends - Die Rennsport-Ikonen aus Zuffenhausen / The racing icons from Zuffenhausen
Motorsport not only gave Porsche the opportunity to test progressive technology that could be transferred to roadsters, it also was the ideal marketing tool with an enormous influence. Looking back at models like the Porsche 917, 904 and 956, successful serial winners and racing legends emerged from that.
Just as legendary are René Staud's Porsche photos. As one of the best and most famous automobile photographers worldwide he staged the top-class sports cars in a matchless direct manner. Beyond the racing track's noise and dirt, the Porsche models unfold their unique magic and show the tough developmental work behind them as well as the timelessness of functional design!

Porsche Carrera - Der Porsche Carrera-Motor / The Porsche 4-Cam Motor (1953-1965)
Carrera - this term is as much part of the Porsche vocabulary as is "Turbo" or "911". lt roots in a race win of a Porsche 550 Spyder at the legendary Carrera Panamericana in Mexico in 1954. The racing engine they used was unique: termed "Carrera motor", it became part of automobile history. The remarkably powerful engine with four camshafts, constructed by Dr. Ernst Fuhrmann, was used successfully in a row of famous Porsche racing cars, from the 356 Carrera to the 550 and 718 Spyder to the 904 Carrera GTS.
The Porsche archive and two exceptional authors worked together on the history of this racing engine and its cars. Rolf Sprenger, Porsche employee for 40 years, explains the technological development of the "Fuhrmann engine", which was used from 1953 to 1965, so that laymen and experts alike comprehend its impressive technological refinement. Along with that, lots of previously unpublished documents and photos from the factory's archive are presented - unveiling exceptional backstage views of the then young brand Porsche, plus interviews with directly involved contemporary witnesses.
Moreover, US-American Porsche expert Steve Heinrichs researched every single race of all Porsche racing cars with Carrera engine- there where about 14 000 - so that this book gives the first full account on the history of those races. ln doing so, he gained a full documentation of all chassis and engine numbers with condition on delivery and motorsports' history.
