Supercharged Mercedes in Detail - 1923-1942

Among the rarest and most exciting cars in automotive history are the magnificent supercharged Mercedes of the 1920s and 1930s, exemplified by the mighty 7-litre S, SS, SSK and SSKL models of the 1920s, principally the work of Ferdinand Porsche, and the exceedingly glamorous, though softer and less stark, eight- cylinder 380K, 500K and 540K cars which succeeded them in the mid-1930s.
There were other models too, going back to 1923 and on to the construction of the final mighty 770 Grosser Mercedes in the early 1940s.

In this book James Taylor presents the history of Mercedes-Benz's output of sporting and luxury supercharged cars in the period. Dealing initially with the company's first forays into supercharging motor cars, he goes on to provide separate chapters on each of the families of models.
First is the S series, where he plots the development of the line from the progenitor Model K through the S to the more powerful SS; then comes a chapter on the highly developed SSK and SSKL cars.
There are full descriptions of mechanical elements, factory bodywork and the creations of outside coachbuilders.

The eight-cylinder 1930s models, of rather more refined character, receive similar treatment: a chapter on the 380K of 1934; another on the 500K and 540K which provided the power that the 380K had lacked; and chapters on the two generations of the enormous 770 model.
Here again factory bodies - many of them stunningly elegant - and the products of European and British coachbuilders are examined.

With 170 colour photographs of surviving examples by the outstanding motor photographer Simon Clay, and over 200 pictures from the archives, this book tells all about a quite unique group of motor cars, rarely seen yet universally admired, in whose conception, design, engineering and construction absolutely no compromises were made.

Mercedes-Benz 8-cylinder cars of the 1930s (vol. 1) - From the 460, 500 Nürburg to the 770 and G 4

NEW

The Mercedes-Benz 460 Nürburg was the first Mercedes production eight-cylinder car. It was quickly followed by the 500 and 500 N and finally the more modern 380 that was also available with compressor.
A different approach was taken with the mighty 770, launched in 1930. It should simply represent the best in technology, quality and comfort, money could buy at that time in Europe.
The all-terrain G4 vehicle was exclusively used by Third Reich officials and military top brass.
This 240-page book tells you their story. It walks you through the cars' development and history, and discusses most of the coachbuilders. All this is accompanied by superb color photography.

This guide is one of over twenty-five books and e-books about Mercedes cars, written by the author. And these are some of the topics covered:
- The 460 Nürburg W08 with its technical aspects and various body versions
- The coach-built cars from Auer to Weinberger
- The 500 Nürburg, 500 and 500 N W08 with its technical aspects and various body versions
- The coach-built cars from Baur to Voll & Ruhrbeck
- The 380S Mannheim W10, 380S W18 and 380 W22 with its technical aspects and various body versions
- The coach-built cars from Authenrieth to Langenthal
- The 770 W07 with its technical aspects and various body versions
- The coach-built cars from Auer to Zupka & Son
- The 770 W150 with its technical aspects and various body versions
- The Sodomka coach-built car
- The G 4 Geländewagen W31 with its technical aspects.

Over 270 color photos highlight many features of these superb cars with their various body designs.

Mercedes Benz Type G4 (W31): The Ultimate Study

This book contains an in-depth study including some 340 photographs - most of them published for the first time - of the all-road Mercedes Benz G4: the magnificent automobile clearly associated with Adolf Hitler who favored it before and during WWII for travelling and parades.

Only four out of a limited series of 57 units have survived till today. But only one of these is in fully original condition: the G4-540 presented by Hitler to General Franco. This car is thoroughly documented here in an outstanding pictorial report.

Mercedes-Benz Cars of the 1990s

As the 1990s began, competition from rivals was threatening the Mercedes-Benz marque's position at the top of the automotive tree. Through a combination of audacious diversification and sometimes less-than-successful cost-cutting, Mercedes began a turnaround that would not achieve final sucess until the middle of the following decade.

This book charts these turbulent years when the marque struggled to come to terms with a changing world. It describes the full range of Mercedes-Benz cars during the 1990s, the models carried over from the 1980s, production changes and contains full specifications.
