DeLorean: The Rise, Fall and Second Acts of the DeLorean Motor Company
This illustrated book presents the full story of John Z. DeLorean, the engineer and entrepreneur behind the stainless-steel sports car made famous by "Back to the Future". It traces his early success at General Motors, where he helped develop the Pontiac GTO and the 1960s muscle car trend, to the founding of the DeLorean Motor Company in 1975 and the release of the DMC-12 in 1981.
Although an American creation, the DeLorean car combined Italian design, British financial support, and a new factory in politically unstable Belfast. The company's decline began in 1982, when DeLorean was arrested in a drug sting. Though later acquitted, the company went bankrupt.
Afterwards, DeLorean tried to restore his brand and reputation but achieved little commercial success. Unexpectedly, the car gained renewed popularity due to its role in the 1985 film "Back to the Future" and its sequels.
Since the original company's end, various groups have attempted to revive the DeLorean brand. The car is now considered a cultural icon rather than a failed business venture.
This book corrects common myths and tells the complete story, with historical images, advertisements, and recent photos.
