Art of Mopar : Chrysler, Dodge, and Plymouth Muscle Cars

The history of Chrysler Corporation is, in many ways, a history of a company floundering from one financial crisis to the next. While that has given shareholders fits for nearly a century, it has also motivated the Pentastar company to create some of the most outrageous, and collectible, cars ever built in the United States.

From the moment Chrysler unleashed the Firepower hemi V-8 engine on the world for the 1951 model year, they had been cranking out the most powerful engines on the market. Because the company pioneered the use of lightweight unibody technology, it had the stiffest, lightest bodies in which to put those most powerful engines, and that is the basic muscle-car formula: add one powerful engine to one light car.

When the muscle car era exploded onto the scene, Chrysler unleashed the mighty Mopar muscle cars, the Dodges and Plymouths that defined the era.
Fabled nameplates like Charger, Road Runner, Super Bee, 'Cuda, and Challenger defined the era and rank among the most valuable collector cars ever produced by an American automaker.

Featuring cars from the incomparable Brothers' Collection, "The Art of Mopar: Chrysler, Dodge, and Plymouth Muscle Cars" celebrates these cars in studio portraits using the light-painting process perfected by Tom Loeser. It is the ultimate portrayal of the ultimate muscle cars.

Chrysler 300: 'America's Most Powerful Car'

In 1951 Chrysler produced its first ever V8 engine - and what an engine it was! Technically advanced and featuring hemispherical combustion chambers, the new "Hemi-Head" engine produced much more power in relation to its capacity than any of its competitors could manage.

In 1955 the new Chrysler C-300 was launched. The new model combined muscle (300 horse-power), style (by Virgil Exner) and superb handling for what was a large car.
In its first year of production the new C-300 would win both major American stock car racing series: NASCAR and AAA. So began the legend and for each of the next ten years a new 300 model, identified by a different letter of the alphabet, would appear.

Hemi Muscle 70 Years : Chrysler, Dodge & Plymouth High Performance

In 1950, Chrysler debuted a potent high-performance overhead-valve V-8 engine. Originally called the FirePower, it would soon be better known by the name "Hemi." Intended to power Chrysler's luxury cars, the Hemi found a higher calling: humiliating its competitorson the street and at the race track.

This is the complete illustrated story of the legendary engine and the cars it powered. Author Darwin Holmstrom explores how Chrysler's Hemi engine became the number one choice for drag racers and stock car racers across the country, and more.

On top of learning how the Hemi engine came to be, you'll also see how the Hemi remained the engine to beat on the street, stuffed into some of the most desirable performance cars in automotive history: the 'Cuda, Road Runner, Charger, GTX, and Challenger, to name a few.
The Hemi made such a lasting impact that Chrysler revived it as the top engine for the twenty-first century Challenger and Charger.

Today, Hemi is a household name, known to enthusiasts and consumers alike, often imitated, never duplicated. Having found its way into both sports cars and luxury cars, you'll often hear: "Hey, has that thing got a Hemi in it?" This book answers "yes"...and offers the full exciting story!

Maxwell Motor and the Making of the Chrysler Corporation

Maxwell Motor, often overlooked in automotive history, played a pivotal role in the early 20th-century American automobile industry. This book sheds light on Maxwell's significant contributions and innovations. Notably, the Maxwell was the first popular car with front engine placement, three-point suspension, shaft drive, and early thermo-syphon cooling.

Yanik meticulously traces Maxwell's evolution from the early Maxwell-Briscoe years (1903-1912) to the Maxwell Motor Company era (1913-1920) and concludes with the Maxwell Motor Corporation years (1921-1925). The narrative delves into the leadership of influential figures such as Jonathan Maxwell, Benjamin Briscoe, Walter Flanders, and Walter P. Chrysler. It explores the business decisions, corporate mergers, and the eventual formation of the Chrysler Corporation in 1925.

Drawing from primary sources like automotive trade journals, writings of key figures, and Chrysler archives, Yanik provides a comprehensive study of Maxwell's impact on the automotive industry. "Maxwell Motor and the Making of the Chrysler Corporation" fills a void in automotive scholarship, offering valuable insights into the early development of the automobile industry.

Les plus belles Mopar

This book celebrates the most daring cars to come out of the Detroit factories during the muscle car era. The term Mopar, a contraction of Motor Parts, refers to the branch distributing spare parts for the Chrysler group's brands.

Mopar was first used by Chrysler in the 1920s and has also designated, since the muscle car era, all the group's vehicles, badged Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth, DeSoto, Imperial... and since 1984 Eagle (ex-AMC).

Brought together for the first time in the incomparable Brother's Collection, these twenty-five high-powered icons will leave you speechless. Photographed by Tom Loeser and described by historian Tom Glatch, these Chrysler muscle cars present these treasures of automotive art in museum-quality portraits.
