Mirage 2000N

In service since 1988, the Mirage 2000 N ensures a daily essential part of the French nuclear deterrence mission by implementing the Air-to-Ground Medium-Range thermonuclear warhead missile.
The remarkable qualities and performances of the Mirage 2000 N, directly derived from the Mirage 2000 C and Mirage 2000 B versions, also allow it to ensure conventional missions.
For the first time, a book reveals the history of the Mirage 2000 N, its origins, its technical design and its operational use within the Air Force and the Strategic Air Forces.

From the Mirage IIIC, the first French interceptor of the Mach 2 class delivered in 1961, to the Mirage 2000D, the all-weather attack version engaged on Afghanistan, Mirage fighter jets have profoundly marked the history of the Air Force until today.
A technological epic, that of the Mirage fighters built by Dassault, combat aircraft with marvellous flying qualities, associated with increasingly efficient weapon systems, making it possible to conduct flights in all weather conditions and at long distances thanks to in-flight refuelling. A human adventure too, that of the generations of "knights of the sky" who, sometimes at the risk of their lives, have led these machines to the assault of the sky.

Through the various missions of the air units, the authors of this book, both specialists in combat aviation, guide you on an illustrated journey into the heart of the cockpits. From daily training to multinational exercises and the most complex real-world operations, this book provides insight into why a fighter jet takes off and how young pilots or navigators become able to guide their machine through the most challenging missions and, if necessary, deliver their armament accurately and efficiently.
In addition to the photos and stories collected during their respective careers as fighter pilots and aviation journalists, the authors have collected testimonies from crews and many previously unseen images putting into perspective five decades of technological and tactical evolution.

Dassault Mirage F1s

The Mirage F1 emerged from a series of design studies performed by French aircraft manufacturer Dassault Aviation. Having originally sought to develop a larger swept wing derivative of the Mirage III, which became the Mirage F2, to serve as a vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) propulsion testbed akin to the Dassault Mirage IIIV, however, it was soon recognised that the emerging design could function as the basis for a competent fighter as well.
Both the Mirage F2 and a smaller derivative, referred to the Mirage F3, received substantial attention from both Dassault and the French Air Force, the latter being interested in its adoption as a long-range fighter bomber as a stopgap measure prior to the adoption of the envisioned Anglo-French Variable Geometry (AFVG) strike aircraft.

Parallel with the Mirage F3 study, which was intended to serve as an interceptor aircraft, Dassault decided to study a single-seat derivative which featured the all-French Snecma Atar 9K-50 turbojet engine.
The Spanish Air Force was the second Mirage F1 customer, and purchased a total of 91 machines of different variants from 1975, equipping a total of four squadrons, during the period 1998-2000.
The survivors were upgraded to Mirage F1M standards, and were phased out of service in June 2013, but about 22 of them were given a new lease of life after beinjg acquired by Draken International to be used as aggressors in the US.

Sea Harrier FRS 1 vs Mirage III / Dagger : South Atlantic 1982 (Osprey)

Following Argentina's military operation to take possession of the Falkland Islands/Islas Malvinas, British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher's government launched a major naval operation to return them to British rule.
Defending the Royal Navy task force were two small squadrons totalling 20 Sea Harriers (SHARs). Initial clashes between SHARs and Argentine Mirages and Daggers on 1 May 1982 failed to eliminate the Sea Harrier defenders.

FAA fighter-bomber pilots relied on daring and courageous ultra-low level attacks, frequently escaping the Sea Harrier's limited capabilities, against Royal Navy warships and auxiliaries, causing considerable damage during Operation Corporate, the large-scale amphibious operation to repossess the islands.

Publishing 35 years after the end of the conflict, this fully illustrated volume offers a balanced and objective examination of the SHAR and the Argentine Mirage and Dagger aircraft, highlighting the attributes of both and the skills and courage of the pilots flying them.

The Dassault Mirage - The Combat Log

This is the first book ever to chronicle in detail all of the Mirage III, 5, F1 and 2000 aircraft and specifically their use in combat operations from the Middle East to the South Atlantic, the Persian Gulf to the steaming jungles of Ecuador and Peru.

With well over three million flight hours since 1961, the Mirage has seen more combat than any present day jet fighter, including action in the Six-Days War, the Falklands, the Gulf War and many other lesser known conflicts.

Superb color photography is combined with detailed text including squadron histories, and Mirage pilot narratives from Israel, Argentina, South Africa,Iraq and others.
