Luftwaffe Training Aircraft

La formación de pilotos y tripulaciones fue un elemento esencial pero a menudo poco visible de la guerra aérea. La Luftwaffe empleó una amplia gama de aviones de entrenamiento, desde modelos sencillos y antiguos como el Klemm 35, el Focke-Wulf Fw 44 y el Bücker 131, hasta tipos más avanzados como el Arado Ar 66, el Gotha Go 145 y el Arado Ar 76, además de aeronaves más grandes como los Junkers W33 y W44. De forma gradual, los alumnos pasaban a aviones más rápidos y modernos.

Los reclutas comenzaban con varios meses en unidades de formación, centrados en el entrenamiento físico, la disciplina y nociones básicas de radio y cartografía. Tras una fase teórica, iniciaban la instrucción de vuelo.

El tipo de avión dependía del cometido futuro, desde cazas hasta bombarderos y transportes. Los futuros pilotos de bombarderos, por ejemplo, volaban versiones tempranas de los He 111, Ju 52, Ju 86 y Do 17. También se utilizaron aviones capturados y centros de entrenamiento en territorios ocupados.
La distancia al frente permitió una amplia documentación fotográfica, base de este estudio ilustrado.
