The Grumman Goose book tells the story of the small twin engined utility seaplane first designed in 1937 for 10-wealthy business men to replace their Loening Air Yachts.
The reliable sturdy design soon found its way into RCAF (31), Peruvian AF (5), Portuguese Navy (12), Brazilian AF (10), Argentina (3), Paraguay (3), Sweden (1), Cuba (2), French Navy in Indochina (17), Japanese (JMSDF 4), and the British (52). In US service, the Army was the first service to receive the Goose when they took delivery of 26 OA-9s in 1938.
The US Navy also received its first Goose in 1938. 205 would be acquired by the Navy as XJ3F-1/JRF-1/JRF-1A, JRF-4, JRF-5 & JRF-6s. The Marines acquired 3 and the Coast Guard 10 which were supplemented during the war with Navy Geese.
Also covered is ski test aircraft, a VSTOL Goose, McKinnon & Volpar Geese, surplus and Catalina/Avalon Airlines Geese.

The threat of enemy aircraft striking American naval forces at night with impunity during World War II led the Navy to seek fighter aircraft capable of stopping this threat.
Trace the history of radar-equipped night fighter aircraft produced for the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps by the American aircraft companies Grumman and Vought before the arrival of jets with nocturnal capabilities.
World War II squadrons operated night variants of the Vought F4U-2 Corsair and Grumman F6F-3/5N Hellcat while post-war night fighter units were equipped with the Grumman F7F-3N Tigercat and/or Vought F4U-5N/NL.
"Night Cats and Corsairs" contains never before published color and black and white photographs covering the night variants of the F6F Hellcat, F7F Tigercat, F4U-2 and F4U-5N/NL Corsairs.

Grumman's first jets were potent aircraft in their own right, but also proved to be the building blocks from which two more famous Grumman 'cats' were born - the legendary A-6 Intruder and supersonic F-14 Tomcat.
This book tells the story of the pivotal Grumman F9F Panther from its initial concept through early design and manufacturing, flight test, aircraft carrier trials, and combat operations in the Korean War. Completing this story is coverage of the more advanced swept-wing transonic Cougar that goes on to become an effective trainer and photo-recon aircraft as well. Detailed appendices provide the reader with complete data on F9F production numbers, carrier deployments, and squadron histories.

In 1948 the USAF, Marine Corps and US Navy were concentrating on converting over to an all-jet force. When the Korean War started in June 1950, the USAF had built up a sizable jet force in the Far East, while the US Navy was in the early stages of getting F9F Panthers operational as replacements for its piston-engined F8F Bearcats. At about this time, the Marine Corps had also begun using the Panthers in limited numbers.
Operating from aircraft carriers off the Korean coast, F9Fs helped stop the North Korean invasion within two weeks of the communists crossing the 38th Parallel. The Panthers, escorting carrier-based AD Skyraiders and F4U Corsairs, penetrated as far north as Pyongyang, where they bombed and strafed targets that the North Koreans thought were out of range.
The Panthers also took the battle all the way to the Yalu River, long before the MiG-15s became a threat. The F9F's basic tasking was aerial supremacy and combat air patrols, but they also excelled in bombing and strafing attacks
Contents: US Navy Panthers strike early - The war drags on - More missions and more MiGs - Interdiction, RESCAP, CAP and more MiGs - Marine panthers enter the war - Appendices.
