F-86 Sabre
NEW
The North American F-86 Sabre was the first swept-wing jet fighter of the United States. It took part in some of the earliest jet-to-jet air battles, facing Soviet MiGs during the Korean War.
Designed in the late 1940s, it was surpassed by newer aircraft by the end of the 1950s, yet its flexible design allowed long service with many air forces.
The Sabre remained operational in some countries well into the late twentieth century, including Peru in the 1990s. Nearly 8.000 aircraft were built between 1949 and 1956 in the United States, Japan, and Italy, with additional carrier-based versions for the US Navy and further production in Canada and Australia.
This new monograph covers the full history of the F-86, from design and development through all major variants to its final retirement. Its combat use is examined in detail, based on extensive primary sources from US and British archives, many only recently available.
With about 500 photographs, both colour and black and white, the book offers a complete and reliable reference for Cold War aviation and aircraft modelling.
