L'épopée Latécoère et la base aéronavale de Saint-Laurent-de-la-Salanque 1924-2015

Louis Bassères, a native of Saint-Laurent-de-la-Salanque, began his research in 1985 after discovering an album of postcards belonging to his grandfather, General François Bassères, in his attic. From that moment on, he focused on recovering photos concerning the former Latécoère seaplane base.
He began by contacting the inhabitants of the village, placing advertisements in the Indépendant des P.-O. and then in La Dépêche de Toulouse. Subsequently, he got in touch with the Biscarrosse seaplane museum in the Landes, as well as with the Latécoère foundation headed by Marie-Vincente Latécoère.

After consulting the archives of the Indépendant des P.-O, and having gathered enough documents, he called on his friend Jean-Pierre Bobo to write the book. Indeed, he already had some experience, having written about fifteen years ago, the history of the Perpignan-Llabanère aerodrome.
Louis Bassères is a member of the Catalan Cartophile Club, the Midi-Pyrénées Carto Club, the Association Mémoires d'Hydraviones, the Cercle Aérophilatélique Français as well as the Association "Donner des Ailes".

While he was looking for new photos to perpetuate his exhibition on the theme "St. Laurent of yesteryear", Louis Bassères made a surprising discovery: The "Laté 28-5 and its pilot Lt. de Vaisseau Paris".
This was the triggering factor for him, especially since in July 1995, following an article written by Joseph de Joux in the magazine "Le Fana de l'Aviation", he established a correspondence made up of exchanges with this journalist who was also an excellent aircraft designer.
