De interneringen van vliegtuigen tijdens De Groote Oorlog
Because the Netherlands was neutral during the First World War, the fierce battle that raged to the south of the country largely passed us by. Nevertheless, the Netherlands regularly had to deal with the battle in the air over Belgium and northwestern France. As the air war was fought with an increasing number of aircraft and sometimes also airships, it happened more often that these ended up over the Netherlands. As soon as the aircraft landed on Dutch territory or in Dutch territorial waters, the government proceeded to internment of aircraft and crews. This meant that they could no longer participate in the war.
"De Interneringen van vliegtuigen tijdens De Groote Oorlog" is a clear account of this important period in Dutch aviation history. The book consists of 335 pages, enriched with many images.

De interneringen van vliegtuigen tijdens De Groote Oorlog
With the establishment of the Aviation Department, as part of the Royal Netherlands Army, the seed was planted for Dutch military aviation on 1 July 1913. At that time, 'aviation' was still in its infancy, but air power soon became an indispensable part of military operations. Within a few decades, the military aviation service developed from a modest auxiliary arm into a modern, independent branch of the armed forces.
Today, the Royal Netherlands Air Force is considered a high-tech organisation. The introduction of a fighter aircraft of the so-called fifth generation is now in full swing: the F-35 Lightning II. The Dutch air force is also getting unmanned aircraft. And with the development of an air force satellite, even space is in sight as an operational domain. However, the human being in the air force remains indispensable.
The history of military aviation is the story of pioneers, of ever new technological innovations, of a unique culture and, not to forget, of military operations. The richly illustrated chronicle "Kroniek van de Koninklijke Luchtmacht" provides - from day to day - a stimulating and accessible overview of Dutch military aviation history based on memorable events, both high points and low points. The air force and its predecessors in the Netherlands and the Dutch East Indies are discussed in their full breadth.
