Lancia Delta HF 4WD & Integrale (1987 to 1994)

Unveiled to the public at the 1979 Frankfurt Motor Show, the Lancia Delta was conceived as a small, front-wheel drive family car, for the more affluent consumer sector. Originally offered in three models - the Delta 1300 in 4 and 5-speed guises, and the Delta 1500 5-speed - the Delta was awareded Car of the Year in 1980.
Over the next decade, the Delta range evolved and expanded, with larger, more powerful engines, auto gearboxes, turbochargers and more, before evolving into the powerful, technically complex, aggressive Lancia Delta Integrale Evo.

Lancia Delta - Un fabuleux palmarès

Der 1979 geborene Kompaktwagen Lancia Delta war ursprünglich nicht darauf programmiert, sich in der weltweiten Rallye-Szene einen Namen zu machen. Diese Rolle spielten der Stratos und Anfang der 1980er Jahre der 037.
Aber als die Konkurrenz (Audi, Peugeot) den Allradantrieb für die Rallye-Weltmeisterschaft entwickelte (Quattro, 205 T16), reagierte Lancia zunächst mit der Präsentation eines Delta 4x4-Prototyps Ende 1982 und dann mit der Entwicklung des Delta S4 Gruppe B, der den RAC bei seinem ersten Einsatz Ende 1985 von den anderen oben genannten patentierten B-Gruppen gewann.

Ein S4 wurde zum Schreckgespenst der Saison 1986 bis zur Tour de Corse, bei der Lancias Flaggschifffahrer Toivonen ums Leben kam. Ein Unfall, der das Ende dieser monströsen Gruppe-B-Rennen bedeutet. Doch Lancia reagierte 1987 schnell mit einem Delta HF 4WD als kommerzielle Basis für das Rallyeauto, das noch im selben Jahr die WRC-Saison startete und zum ersten Mal Rallye-Weltmeister wurde. Und es wird nicht aufhören.

Lancia Delta
