Versatile Tractors - A Farm Boy's Dream
This book traces the life and career of Peter Pakosh, founder of Versatile, and the development of his agricultural machinery company. Raised on a remote Canadian farm by immigrant parents, Pakosh set out to develop machinery that would make farming easier.
After leaving the family farm, he worked as a draftsman for Massey-Harris in Toronto. He subsequently began designing and manufacturing grain augers and sprayers in the basement of his home. By the late 1970s, Versatile tractors accounted for approximately 30% of large tractor sales in North America.
Versatile was the first company to mass-produce four-wheel-drive tractors and developed the bi-directional tractor, which could operate with equal power in either direction. The company later had several major industrial shareholders, including Ford, New Holland and Fiat. Today, it operates as Buhler Versatile Inc.
Illustrated with contemporary and archival photographs, as well as reproductions of historical company catalogues, this book documents the history of Peter Pakosh, Versatile and its agricultural machinery.
