DDR-Traktoren aus Nordhausen (Schrader Typen Chronik)
After the Second World War, the later GDR was at a great disadvantage in tractor and tow tractor construction. Only two classic manufacturers, both based in Nordhausen, remained in the Soviet occupation zone and had to start practically from scratch.
The merged Nordhausen works were therefore only able to start modest series production in 1949. Although they had prepared themselves for a great future in tractor construction, the merged Nordhausen works had to cease production in October 1965 by government decree. What remains is the memory of some unforgettable GDR tractors: This book by Frank Rönicke tells their story.
In the first post-war years, agriculture in East Germany quickly needed new tools. Tractor production in the Soviet Occupation Zone, which was called the German Democratic Republic from October 1949, started under extremely difficult conditions. As early as 1951, a process of concentration in the agricultural machinery industry began with the formation of the Fortschritt Neustadt/Sachsen combine.
Of the once numerous tractor manufacturers, only the Schönebeck tractor factory remained. Over the years, a surprisingly diverse range of agricultural machinery and tractors from GDR production was created, as Frank Rönicke recalls in this opulent volume.

Das große Buch der DDR-Nutzfahrzeuge - Landwirtschaft, Feuerwehr, Lastverkehr
Some names were real nicknames or almost sounded like them: Barkas, Robur, Brockenhexe or Maulwurf. Others were very matter-of-fact: W50, LF 16-TS 8 or KLF-TS-8. We are talking about the GDR commercial vehicles that dominated the streets and fields.
This collection shows, in authentic pictures and with a wealth of knowledgeable background information, fire engines, tractors and trucks that mostly did their job reliably. A nostalgic look at an exciting chapter in automotive history

Das große Buch der DDR-Nutzfahrzeuge - Landwirtschaft, Feuerwehr, Lastverkehr
In the area of the former GDR, 4.6 million hectares were ploughed - a task not only for tractors of the type "Aktivist", "Pionier" or "Brockenhexe", but also for agricultural machinery and implement carriers of own production.
In this magnificent volume of images and text, the author creates a monument to these deserving activists. Meticulously researched and extensively documented, he provides a comprehensive overview of what was cultivated in the fields in the workers' and farmers' state. Rounded off with technical data, this book once again impresses with its competence, objectivity and period color.
Even in the days of IFA, VEB and planned economy, excellent tractors were designed and produced in the GDR. Popular models such as Pionier, Brockenhexe, Rübezahl, Maulwurf and Urtrack were created. The author, a proven expert on GDR tractors, presents a complete typology here.

NEW
Like in West Germany, agriculture in East Germany needed new machinery quickly after the war. However, while tractor production soon resumed in the West, restarting it in the Soviet Occupation Zone, which became the German Democratic Republic in October 1949, was much more challenging. In the East, the concentration of the agricultural machinery industry began as early as 1951 with the formation of the Fortschritt Neustadt/Sachsen combine. Despite limited state resources, manufacturers managed to develop an impressively diverse and powerful range of products for field and farm. Frank Rönicke recalls this remarkable history in this richly illustrated volume.
