European Racing Motorcycles

This book covers no less than twelve countries; all of which, although gaining a fair level of success, didn't quite justify a whole book to themselves. The twelve countries are Austria, Belgium, Czechoslovakia, Finland, France, Holland, Portugal, the Soviet Union, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Yugoslavia.

The Czechoslovakian & Spanish chapters are the two which have the most words and photographs, but the other ten are just as fascinating. Of course some European nations such as Denmark or Norway produced riders rather than racing bikes.
Many individual marques are covered, plus various Soviet types which, although they come under a single heading, are in fact the product of seven individual factories.

The book also encompasses a large number of talented engineers, designers and riders of world standing. Over 500 pictures in colour and black & white.

Motorcycles we loved in the 1990s

The 1990s marked a significant period in British motorcycle history, cherished by nostalgic riders now in their 50s. Notable sports bikes of the era included Honda's FireBlade, Yamaha's R1, and Ducati's 916, which propelled Carl 'Foggy' Fogarty to victory in the World Superbike championship.
Hyperbikes like Kawasaki's ZZR1100, Honda's CBR1100XX Super Blackbird, and Suzuki's Hayabusa set new performance benchmarks, reaching speeds of up to 178mph.

This decade also witnessed the revival of Triumph, the introduction of Ducati's Monster 900, Honda's NR750 with its unique oval pistons, and Yamaha's innovative GTS1000 with hub-center steering. "Motorcycles We Loved in the 1990s" pays homage to these iconic bikes and more.

Motorcycling in the '50s

For many, a motorcycle bought at the beginning of the 1950s was a first taste of the freedom offered by personal transport. Although postwar austerity was fading, money was still tight and new machines virtually unobtainable, but there were plenty of cheap prewar machines around and an ex-War Department motorcycle could be bought from one of the big city dealers on the never-never; better still it would be sent to your local railway station.

Ex-army dispatch riders' coats and boots would serve to keep the weather at bay as the new motorcyclists explored and enjoyed the quiet roads in a pre-motorway era.

The decade would become a Golden Era of motorcycling as manufacturers brought new and excitingly advanced machines to an appreciative audience which had never even heard of a Japanese motorcycle.

Motorcycle sport mushroomed in popularity at a time when you actually had to go to the race to see it and helped to reinforce the public's ever-growing enthusiasm for the motorcycle. the era would also see the arrival of the moped, scooter and bubblecar.

For those that were there, Jeff Clew's insight to motorcycling of the '50s will provide a delightful nostalgic journey into the past, while those younger riders who cherish 1950s motorcycles today will discover a whole new dimension to their enjoyment of the machines.

Vintage Dirt Bikes Enthusiasts Guide

Knobby tires, small two-cycle engines, four-speed transmission, and a full four inches of suspension travel. Those are the bikes that most baby boomers grew up on. Now, those simple little Hondas, Yamahas, Harleys, and Pentons are making their way from the back of the garage to the front. From the barn to the shop. The shop where patient mechanics and enthusiasts are stripping them down and bringing them back to life.

The questions for the prospective buyer is: What to bring home? Among the thousands and thousands of dirt bikes, scramblers, trials bikes, play bikes and early motocross bikes, which are the best bikes to make your own?

"Vintage Dirt Bikes" will help the reader make that decision by providing information on all the most popular makes. For each bike, this book provides four to six paragraphs describing the bike in general terms. In addition, bullet points for each model include the following information: Relative cost to acquire, value when finished, and which are most likely to offer the most fun for the money. Readers will also find what to look for when checking the condition of items such as paint, suspension, frame, and engine.

Encyclopédie mondiale de la moto - Plus de 1000 constructeurs de ABC à Zündapp

If today the number of motorcycle manufacturers can be counted on the fingers of two hands, they were a hundred times more numerous nearly a century ago. This proliferation can be explained by the craze for the internal combustion engine at the beginning of the 20th century and also that of the bicycle at the same time.
The marriage of the engine and the "Little Queen" seemed to be the simple and economical solution to motorize the masses. A few companies, craftsmen and DIY enthusiasts tried the experiment. Some quickly disappeared, others knew how to adapt, show imagination and flooded the emerging motorcycle market with great reinforcements of sporting successes which assured them advertising spin-offs increasing their sales.

Harley-Davidson in the USA, BMW in Germany, Moto-Guzzi in Italy, Triumph in Great Britain are today among the rare survivors of ancient times who can boast of having a real history. The Japanese quartet formed by Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha and Suzuki has, for its part, been able to breathe new life into the practice of two-wheelers by inventing the fun motorcycle.
But what do we know about the thousands of anonymous and passionate manufacturers who have flourished over the decades? This is what this encyclopedia proposes to help you discover through more than 1000 brands.

Motos - Le temps des inventions 1895-1918 (2ème édition)

This book deals with the first turns of the motorcycle wheel, particularly in France, a country where the internal combustion engine would arouse an extraordinary craze during the Belle Epoque.
The image of the world of the motorcycle that has come down to us is ultimately quite unrealistic: we can easily imagine frail, sputtering machines, moving at the speed of a bicycle and piloted by some mustachioed eccentrics.
Of course, these machines still largely make use of materials such as wood, leather, brass or copper that smell of craftsmanship. But make no mistake: these are indeed "high tech" machines, relatively efficient. Moreover, from a purely technical point of view, everything or almost everything was invented between the end of the 19th century and the eve of the Great War.
It would still take years to "refine" these techniques, but during this period, manufacturers and engineers laid all the foundations of the modern motorcycle.

This work therefore echoes these marvelous machines by focusing not on the most mythical ones, but on motorcycles which are in some way the catalysts of the techniques of the time.

Motos insolites & prototypes hors normes

From the first De Dion tricycles to the Honda 750s, from the world champion MV Agusta to today's Yamaha M1 Grand Prix or from the first Vespa of 1946 to the Piaggio MP3 born in 2006, the history of the motorcycle is essentially known by its most famous models.
These stars have often hidden in their shadow the work of the precursors, the sometimes crazy inventions of a few inventors and those, brilliant, which nevertheless did not achieve success due to lack of means, technology or simply luck.

It is to all these motorcycles abandoned by history that this book pays tribute today with a predilection for all those which in their time pioneered new ideas and concepts, however unusual they may be.
Félix Millet five-cylinder from 1897, Peugeot 500 cm³ double overhead camshaft from 1913, Killinger front-wheel drive from 1938, Carniti three-cylinder scooter from 1953 or Japanese copies of BMWs in the 1950s, this extraordinary history opens the doors to the unknown.

Illustrated with nearly five hundred photos, this collection, which brings together road and racing motorcycles, engines, sidecars and scooters, is a revised and enriched anthology of the articles published by the author in the specialist weekly "La Vie de la moto" since 2005.

Motos Youngtimers - Génération 1985-2000

In 1985, the Suzuki GSX-750R appeared, rightly considered the first road-legal super sports bike. It kicked off a new generation of super sports bikes such as the Kawasaki Ninja, the Honda VFR and CBR and the Yamaha YZR.
BMW passed the 100 hp mark for the first time with the K 1100LT road bike, while the first big trail bikes appeared: the Honda Africa Twin, the Yamaha Super Ténéré and the Cagiva Elephant.

Custom bikes were really popular with the Yamaha Virago, the Honda VF 750C Magna and the Suzuki LS 650 Savage. Not to mention the classic Yamaha Diversion, Suzuki Bandit and Yamaha SRX. These stars of the 1980s and 1990s, the youngtimers, are now legendary.
It's time to rediscover them by reading this book that pays tribute to them.
