Mitsubishi A6M Zero (Flight Craft)

Mitsubishi A6M Zero odbył pierwszy lot 1 kwietnia 1939 roku i szybko okazał się lepszy od wczesnych alianckich myśliwców na Pacyfiku. Był lekki, wytrzymały i bardzo zwrotny, uzbrojony w dwa działka 20 mm i dwa karabiny 7.7 mm.
Jego konstrukcja była nietypowa: silnik, kabina, przedni kadłub i skrzydła tworzyły jedną sztywną sekcję, połączoną z tylną częścią kadłuba i usterzeniem za pomocą 80 śrub.

W 1942 roku Amerykanie nadali A6M kryptonim Zeke, lecz powszechnie używano nazwy Zero. W pierwszych miesiącach wojny na Pacyfiku osiągnął znaczące wyniki. W bitwie o Jawę, zakończonej 8 marca 1942 roku, piloci Zero zniszczyli około 550 samolotów alianckich.

W późniejszym okresie wojny Zero został wyraźnie prześcignięty przez nowsze amerykańskie myśliwce, takie jak F6F Wildcat i Corsair. W ostatniej fazie wiele maszyn wyposażono w bomby do ataków Kamikaze.

Mitsubishi Zero - Japan's Legendary Fighter

Engineered with manoeuvrability in mind, the light-weight, stripped-back Mitsubishi Zero had a performance that left her opponents totally outclassed. The dogfights she engaged in with the Chinese, British, Dutch and American warplanes in the 1941-42 period are the stuff of aviation legend.
