The book contains not only action photos, but also many "walkaround" photos that show the aircraft from different angles. Chapters on cockpit, fuselage, cargo area and maintenance work.
The series "Aircraft in Detail" arose from the collaboration between pilots, aircraft technicians and modellers. This volume (No. 22) on the C-160 Transall transport aircraft is illustrated with a large number of very high quality color photographs, most of which have never been published before.

Die Transall C-160 ist nach wie vor das deutsche Transportflugzeug schlechthin und unverkennbar in seiner militärischen Auslegung. Entwickelt und gebaut in den 60er-Jahren bewährte sich die Maschine in zahlreichen Auslandsmissionen und wird bis heute eingesetzt.
Angefangen von der Entwicklung bis hin zu den technischen Daten liefert Gerhard Lang mit diesem Band die aktuellste Gesamtdarstellung der "Trall".
Die Transall C-160 dürfte jedem Luftfahrtenthusiasten ein Begriff sein. Es ist nach wie vor "das" deutsche Transportflugzeug schlechthin. Entwickelt und gebaut in den 60er-Jahren vom deutsch-französischen Konsortium Transporter Allianz - dem die Transall auch ihren Namen verdankt -, wird die Maschine bis heute in Deutschland, Frankreich und der Türkei eingesetzt.
Bekannt wurde das Flugzeug unter anderem durch Hilfsflüge im Rahmen humanitärer Einsätze primär in Afrika. In kleinerem Umfang wurde das Flugzeug auch zivil eingesetzt, beispielsweise in Malaysia im Personentransport sowie in Frankreich zum Transport von Post. Dieses Buch beschreibt die Entwicklung und Einsatz der Transall.
Although its retirement was announced for a while for 2005, the C-160 Transall is still the principal lynchpin of French military air transport. More than forty years after it went into service, this twin-engined tactical transport has been present in all the theaters of operation where the French army has been deployed, not to mention the numerous humanitarian operations which have taken it all over the globe.
Handled with dexterity by its crews, the Transall is always impressive when it's a question of getting down to the nitty-gritty and showing some muscle in the most unlikely situations, but for how much longer now? It is not wise to ignore the potential difficulties and dangers of using worn-out and aging aircraft in combat in spite of all its qualities.
