A generalist manufacturer, Berliet has left its mark on the coach and bus market. At the beginning of the sixties, the Lyon manufacturer was involved in the study of a new standard bus for the RATP intended to replace all the equipment then in service.
Named PCM R, the latter was selected by the Régie which ordered 750 copies. An innovative model in more than one way, this bus was then offered in a slightly reworked version, the PCM U, to provincial urban transport networks, with whom it met with some success.
