Die Wehrmacht gab es offiziell erst wieder ab 1936. Doch der Grundstein für den Aufbau der Armee wurde bereits lange zuvor gelegt. Offiziell hatte die Reichswehr der Weimarer Zeit nie mehr als 100.000 Mitglieder, keine schweren Waffen und keine gepanzerten Fahrzeuge. Les panzers allemands de la Seconde Guerre mondiale

C'est à travers la figure emblématique du char, et plus spécialement du char allemand - le Panzer - que ce livre raconte la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Panzer est un mot d'origine germanique signifiant « blindé » ou bien « carapace ».
Si le vocable s'applique aujourd'hui à tous les engins cuirassés allemands, des origines jusqu'à nos jours, l'usage fait qu'il désigne essentiellement les blindés chenillés à tourelle de l'armée allemande de la Seconde Guerre mondiale (Panzerkampfwagen « voiture blindée de combat », souvent abrégé en PzKpfw). Die deutschen Panzer, anfangs mit leichten Kampfwagen ausgestattet, verfügten über Waffen, die für den Kampf gegen Panzer nur begrenzt geeignet waren.

Axis Tanks of the Second World War - Rare photographs from wartime archives (Images of War)

The German Army used tanks to devastating effect in their Blitzkrieg campaigns during the early years of the Second World War and in the intense defensive battles leading up to final defeat in 1945.

It may be a surprise to many that the Japanese Army had more tanks than Nazi Germany in 1938; these included the Type 95 light tank and the Type 89 and 97 medium tanks. Co-belligerents in the Axis Alliance that built their own tanks included Italy, Romania and Hungary.
The latter was responsible for the Toldi and Turan light tank series.
