In oktober 1945 richtte Joseph Cyril Bamford een bedrijf op dat de bouw- en landbouwmachine-industrie zou veranderen. JCB ontwikkelde 's werelds eerste graaflaadcombinatie - een concept dat nog steeds centraal staat in het bedrijf.
Hoewel de graaflaadcombinatie het bekendste product werd, breidde JCB het aanbod snel uit. In de afgelopen 75 jaar groeide het bedrijf uit tot een wereldleider met meer dan 300 verschillende machines, geproduceerd op vier continenten. De oorspronkelijke familiewaarden en focus op betrouwbaarheid zijn behouden gebleven. Het bedrijf staat nu onder leiding van Lord Anthony Bamford.
