Axis Aircraft in Latin America

Dopo la Prima Guerra Mondiale, Germania e Italia iniziarono a sviluppare la propria industria aeronautica e a cercare nuove opportunità per espandere la propria presenza globale. Allo stesso tempo, l'America Latina era una regione con un sistema di trasporti sottosviluppato e un territorio impervio, mentre la sua potenza aerea era praticamente inesistente.

Grazie anche all'aiuto degli immigrati tedeschi e italiani, l'industria aeronautica dell'America Latina trovò presto un terreno fertile per vendere i propri prodotti, sviluppando le prime compagnie aeree della regione, parallelamente al crescente interesse dell'aviazione militare locale.
L'aviazione commerciale, inclusa Scadta, la seconda compagnia aerea al mondo, è stata fortemente influenzata dall'industria aeronautica tedesca, con una tradizione che si estende per oltre 40 anni, mentre il settore militare si è concentrato sugli aerei italiani.
Questi aerei da guerra furono ampiamente impiegati durante la Guerra del Chaco tra Paraguay e Bolivia, così come nella guerra del 1941 tra Perù ed Ecuador. Ironicamente, sia i modelli tedeschi che quelli italiani furono utilizzati contro i loro stessi costruttori durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale per pattugliare i mari alla ricerca di sottomarini tedeschi e italiani.

Tra i modelli più famosi figurano lo Junkers F13, W34, K43, Ju52/3m, Ju86, il Fiat CR.20, CR.32, BR.20, G-46, G-55, il Dornier Wal, il Focke Wulf Fw58 Weihe, l'Fw200 Condor e l'unico modello giapponese, il Mitsubishi Betty.
È interessante notare che molti di questi esemplari sono ancora esistenti oggi, tra cui l'ultimo Dornier Wal e l'ultimo Weihe rimasti al mondo.
Il libro include anche la storia dei tecnici e dei piloti tedeschi e italiani che, dopo la guerra, si recarono a lavorare in Argentina e Brasile, dove svilupparono numerosi progetti, alcuni dei quali iniziati nei loro paesi prima della fine del conflitto.

The standards and developments of each period are described and the instrumentation of each cockpit is identified. The aircraft cockpit represents the interface between man and machine. In the span of a few decades the cockpit underwent an astonishing development, from sparsely equipped, primitive open cockpit, to enclosed cockpits with numerous instruments and systems.
The pilots of aviation's pioneering period flew by sight and feel and mistrusted the few instruments that were available. The First World War brought mass production of aircraft and the first standards for instruments and equipment.
The 1930s and 1940s represented the apex of German aircraft development, producing distant-reading compass systems, radio navigation aids, electric multiple indicators and autopilots.
