Lambretta Lui : History, Models & Documentation

The first and only monograph entirely devoted to the Lambretta LUI scooter, produced by Innocenti in their tens of thousands, designed by that master of body styling, Nuccio Bertone.

The Lambretta LUI was innovative - perhaps too much so - and that was possibly the reason it was not understood, and it was unable to cut for itself as big a slice of the youth market as it should have done.
Innocenti believed in the LUI with all its conviction, having invested considerably in advertising it in all available media: television, cinema, newspapers and magazines. A mighty effort that did not bring in the hoped-for results.
But today, the LUI has been recognised, quite rightly, as one of the shining examples of Italian design as applied to a scooter.

Published as the first in a series of books spotlighting the most important and significant Lambrettas, this treatise unveils all the technical and stylistic secrets of the LUI model by model, illustrated by invaluable archive material never before published, and is written by Vittorio Tessera, a major historian on the popular two-wheeler in all its variations.

Lambretta - Illustrated Guide to the Identification

This is a unique book of its kind, useful to all Lambretta owners and riders who mean to understand the evolution of the famous Innocenti scooter down to the smallest detail.

After having digested all the technical information supplied by the concessionaires of the period, and having created thousands of illustrations showing all the versions produced by Innocenti between 1947 and 1971 piece by piece, the author has brought to life a guide that shows even the smallest modification carried out over the years on the various models that have appeared in the marketplace.

Due to those illustrations, it is possible to see when a particular modification was introduced during the production cycle of an individual model.
The book is also enriched by dozens of original documents of the period published in colour, production graphs and, no less important, all the official technical specifications of the Traffic Control Authority for the registration of Lambretta vehicles.

Lambretta 125 A-B - History, models and documents / Storia modelli e documenti

NOUVEAU

Lambretta DL/GP - Storia, modelli e documenti - History, models and documentation

This book looks at all aspects of this special scooter: it history, its technical evolution, its sporting victories, with a specific chapter devoted to the British market, which more than any other took the DL to its heart and still today considers it to be the pinnacle of Innocenti's production.
The last model produced by Innocenti had been developed at the famous Bertone design centre in Turin which, with a few but substantial modifications managed to breathe new life into the Lambretta, making it even more sporting and elegant, sophisticated and modern.

With a curious black splash on the leg shield, the new model soon became a best-seller on the crowded international scooter market.
It enjoyed enormous success in Great Britain, being transformed into a cult object for the most sporting and demanding scooterists. More than fifty years after its launch, its styling its styling is still modern and the model is still very popular with scooterists all over the world.

Lambretta Junior 50, 100,125 - History, models and documentation / Storia, modelli e documenti

In the early Sixties, Innocenti took a technological leap in the engineering of the Lambretta, introducing for the first time a monocoque frame clearly inspired by the scooter's direct rival, Piaggio's Vespa. This led to the Junior series, models destined for a younger clientele and with a retail price that was more affordable compared to the traditional LI and TV models.

The Junior series was produced with various displacements, from the smallest 50 cc, aimed at the 14-year-olds, to the higher performance 100 and 125, designed for young people looking for a practical and economic means of transport that could be used for out-of-town weekend trips.
Initially, in the early months of 1964, only the 100 cc displacement was available, destined prevalently for the export markets; late in 1964, the range was expanded with the 50 cc and 125 cc models.
1966 saw the introduction of the new 125 four-speed, which was much punchier and faster, while in 1968, the 4 Dl boasted redesigned side panels and 10" wheels.

The final version produced was the 50 Special with a number of styling modifications and new colours. This last model remained in production through to the closure of the factory in May 1971.
A total of 167,784 examples were produced in the three displacements. The series was without doubt a commercial success and still has a place in the hearts of Lambrettisti the world over.

This book devotes specific chapters to questions of production, technology, advertising, and many other areas of interest regarding this series of models that once again enjoyed notable success with the public.

Lambretta TV / LI Scooterlinea - Terza Serie / Series 3 : Storia, Modelli e Ducumenti / History, Models and Documentation

A book dedicated to a true milestone in the history of the Innocenti scooter: "Scooterlinea 1962", a thoroughly revised Lambretta that was a protagonist on the worldwide scooter scene of the Sixties. Technically known as the "Series III", the new Lambretta was launched late in 1961, initially with the two 125 and 150 cc displacements, later joined by the 175 TV in the spring of 1962.

The third title in the series dedicated to the most important Lambrettas (which include the 'Lambretta Lui' and the 'Lambretta TV/LI Series I'), celebrates a model characterised by sleek and aggressive bodywork and equipped with a front disc brake and an extremely high level of fittings and finish.

Written by Vittorio Tessera, the leading Lambretta historian, the book reviews the complete industrial, technical and social history of the Scooterlinea, drawing on hundreds of previously unpublished contemporary photos in black and white and colour.

Lambretta TV / LI: Prima Series - Serie I : History, models and documentation / Storia, modelli e documenti

Following the monograph devoted to the Lui, this volume focuses on another iconic Lambretta the TV-LI Series I. In the history of the Lambretta, the TV and LI Series I laid the foundations of a new engineering concept that revolutionised the traditional model with shaft drive, sold from 1947 to 1958 in hundreds of thousands of examples.
There were numerous innovations characterising this new series of models: the engine adopted a duplex chain transmission with a four-speed gearbox and the cylinder was set horizontally, while in terms of the chassis, the most significant novelties concerned the larger 10" wheels and the dimensions of the bodywork.
No less important were the improvements to the rear suspension, which abandoned the famous torsion bar for a more efficient motorcycle-style spring-damper unit.

For the first time a Lambretta reached a displacement of 170 cc and could offer high performance with a maximum speed of over 100 kph. This model, which went head-to-head with the Vespa 150 GS, is without doubt one of the most sought-after by collectors today.
Even the more tranquil LI 125 and 150 were extremely successful, with thousands of examples of this exceptional Innocenti scooter still on the roads today, appreciated for their incredible robustness and stability.

Vittorio Tessera, "Mr Lambretta," covers the entire technical, industrial and social history of these models, while the book is illustrated with hundreds of photographs.

The evolution of the Lambretta 200: TV 200, SX 200, GP 200

In the early 1960s Innocenti introduced the series three Slimstyle Lambretta with its stunning looks, and innovative engineering making it a world leader.
The TV 175 was seen as the pinnacle of that design and in no way could it be bettered, but some thought different. The motorway age had dawned meaning vehicles with greater power and speed were now in vogue but could this include the Lambretta.
Despite a reluctance to join the race Innocenti finally gave in when in 1963 they produced the TV 200 the most powerful Lambretta to date.

Throughout the rest of the decade, the 200 cc Lambretta continued to evolve through the SX and GP models creating an ever-lasting legacy.
For the first time all three models the TV 200, SX 200, and GP 200 are thoroughly examined and compared against each other.

The SX 200 is regarded by many as the ?nest scooter ever made with devotees all over the world, whereas the SX 150 has allways been classed as its smailer brother and never got the acclaim it should have done. Both have gained iconic status since and continue to be in demand more than 50 years after their demise.

Researched from original factory documents and press releases it traces the history of both machines as they evolved. Also including technical specifications, colour charts and publicity information surrounding the time of their launch and continued production.

The history of the Lambretta Grand Prix

The Grand Prix was the final series of Lambretta scooters to be built. Launched in 1969 it was based around the restyling of the SX model with the transformation being carried out by Italian designer Bertone.
Offered in three different choices and a striking new colour scheme it became an instant hit with customers. The Grand Prix 200 was fitted with the most powerful engine Innocenti ever produced and was capable of 70mph, thus labelling it the ultimate sports scooter.

The history of the Lambretta TV 175 and TV/GT 200

The Lambretta TV 175 and TV 200 series three were seen as the natural evolution of the Slimstyle series which had been introduced in late 1961. The TV 175 was regarded as the pinnacle of Lambretta engineering and design by Innocenti, that was challenged by Lambretta Concessionaires and in particular, Peter Agg who felt it could be taken further.
This eventually led to the creation of the TV 200 and in doing so changed Lambretta production forever.

Innocenti Lambretta (Edizione ampliata)

The Lambretta was undoubtedly one of the most popular means of transport of the Fifties and Sixties. A valid alternative to the car, it was a loyal travelling companion for hundreds of thousands of Italian families, who had the good fortune to ride it for work or pleasure or both.
Together with the Vespa, the Lambretta monopolised the Italian scooter market and was able to conquer that position due to its original technical characteristics and its exceptionally modern design.

This is now the third edition of the "Innocenti Lambretta" book by Vittorio Tessera, expanded with all-colour photographs reproducing rare advertising of the period, the manufacturer's brochures and even film posters of the Lambretta, which was the legendary, unforgettable and unquestioned protagonist in its golden years.

Lambretta

During the Second World War, the Italian company Innocenti in Milan was still thinking about an inexpensive vehicle for the population.
When peace finally came, the Milanese put their ideas into practice and created the Lambretta, a scooter that was not only inexpensive, but had the potential to become a real classic and was also highly sought after abroad.

In this magnificent volume, Pete Davies presents all the models of this Italian cult brand that were produced from 1945 to 1971 in detail and with plenty of illustrations. The well-known NSU Lambretta is also described in detail.
