The first Caterpillar tracked tractors and steam tractors made Holt famous. The photo collection in this book was compiled by the company as an overview of steam and gasoline tractors built between 1894 and 1912. During this period Holt sold 133 steam powered tractors, the majority to farmers. This is the most complete photo book of Holt steam tractors and early Caterpillar tractors ever published. It contains a fine collection of 125 high-quality large-format archival photos.

Over 120 detailed factory photographs and illustrations show how technology changed drastically in those early years for mass dirt movers.
Included are the 1H, 8R, 2U, 14A and others, as well as company sales literature and WWII vintage photos. Many photos show attachments and equipment produced by Caterpillar and others for use with these earth-moving giants.
