Cologne has been one of the most outstanding railway hubs in Germany since the high-speed line between Cologne and Rhine/Main was opened in 2002. An incredibly diverse railway service was and is offered on both sides of the Rhine in a very small area. The city is the starting point for the legendary Rhine routes, the Eifel route, the first international long-distance route via Aachen to Belgium and much more.

The journalist and rail expert Bernd Franco Hoffmann presents an entertaining journey into the eventful history of the legendary Cologne-Minden Railway. Around 120 mostly unpublished images document the vehicles used as well as the development of the routes and stations.

Die Mindener Kreisbahnen - gestern und heute

The Mindener Kreisbahnen (MKB) are one of the few former narrow-gauge railways that have survived the great upheavals of the transport market and - in the course of often painful adjustments - have been able to maintain their independence into the 21st century.
The once 83 km long network is now only half as long (and has long since been standard gauge), the vehicle fleet consists of modern diesel locomotives and leased electric locomotives that travel deep into the DB network with heavy freight trains. The MKB is also successful again in passenger rail transport thanks to its participation in the WestfalenBahn.

This book describes the highly eventful history of the MKB over the past 120 years. It describes the routes, stations and vehicles in words and pictures, focusing in particular on the events of the last two decades, in which the company has changed more rapidly than ever before.
