Porsche 917-021 : The Fabulous Story

La Porsche 917 portant le numéro de châssis 021 a été construite en 1969 et faisait partie de la première série de vingt-cinq 917. En avril 1970, la voiture a été vendue à l'équipe finlandaise AAW pour être peinte aux couleurs rouge et jaune de son sponsor titre, Shell.
La première course de la voiture était le 1000 km de Monza, bon pour une 11e place. Cela a été suivi par la course de 1000 km de Spa-Francorchamps, dans laquelle l'équipe Laine-van Lennep a terminé cinquième.

David Piper et van Lennep ont conduit la 021 aux 24 Heures du Mans, mais l'Anglais s'est écrasé sous une pluie battante dans le virage Dunlop alors qu'il terminait troisième. Il a ramené la voiture avec un châssis tordu aux stands pour réparation. Gijs van Lennep a continué la course, mais a dû abandonner suite à l'explosion d'un pneu.

Après une réparation chez Porsche, la 021 a disputé de nombreuses autres courses. Le châssis et la carrosserie d'origine ont été vendus à Manfred Freisinger en 1972. Trois ans plus tard, Joachim Grossmann rachète et restaure la Porsche historique. Il a peint la voiture en blanc, réduit la puissance du moteur et utilisait la voiture sur la voie publique !

Après avoir eu plusieurs propriétaires, la 021 a été achetée par Vincent Gaye fin 2007. Il décide de procéder à une restauration complète. La voiture roula à nouveau en 2011, maintenant en parfait état.
