Il Panzerjäger Tiger (P) si affermò come un formidabile cacciacarri, impiegato in numero limitato dalla Wehrmacht. Derivato da un progetto iniziale del carro armato Panzer VI Tiger, in particolare dal prototipo di Ferdinand Porsche, questa serie di 90 veicoli, inizialmente denominata Ferdinand, subì una trasformazione dopo le deludenti prestazioni a Kursk. In seguito alla ricostruzione e alle modifiche, le 48 unità sopravvissute furono ribattezzate Elefant.

Questo volume ripercorre la storia bellica sia del Ferdinand che dell'Elefant attraverso fotografie d'epoca. Approfondisce inoltre le origini del sfortunato progetto del carro armato Porsche Tiger.

Jagdpanther Tank Destroyer : German Army and Waffen-SS, Western Europe 1944 -1945 (Tank Craft)

Combining the destructive firepower of the 88mm gun with the outstanding mobility of the Panther series, the Jagdpanther is quite probably the best-known tank destroyer of the Second World War.
In the vehicle's first action on 30 July 1944, three Jagdpanthers managed to destroy eleven British tanks in a vicious two minute firefight near the village of Les Loges in Normandy, cementing the Jagdpanther's reputation as a potent tank killer.

Jagdpanther vs SU-100 - Eastern Front, 1945 (Osprey)

As World War II in Europe reached its end, armour development and doctrine had experienced several years of massively accelerated change, especially within the crucible of the Eastern Front. The German Jagdpanther and Soviet SU-100, both turretless tank-destroyer designs based on a 'traditional' turret-tank chassis, were the culminating examples of how the progression of experience, resources and time constraints produced vehicles that were well suited for roles of defence and offence, respectively.
The Jagdpanther represented a well-balanced solution and an excellent use of limited resources, while the SU-100 was a natural progression of the SU-85, where numbers produced compensated for rudimentary construction, poor crew comfort and limited optics.

Jagdtiger Heavy Tank Destroyer (Tank Craft)

Nel 1943, di fronte al crescente numero di carri armati pesanti nemici, i comandanti tedeschi richiesero un cacciacarri più potente. Lo sviluppo del Tiger II coincise con le prove del cannone da 12.8 cm L/55, inizialmente progettato come arma antiaerea. La loro combinazione diede vita al Panzerjäger Tiger Ausf. B, meglio conosciuto come Jagdtiger.

Impiegato per la prima volta nel gennaio del 1945, lo Jagdtiger era praticamente invulnerabile alle armi anticarro dell'epoca, mentre il suo cannone era in grado di penetrare anche le corazze più spesse.
