In the twenties and thirties of the twentieth century, the design of means of transport focused on the lowest possible air resistance. In addition to road and air traffic, the streamlined shape was also introduced on the railways.
In the Netherlands, the introduction of the three-part diesel train set caused a real sensation in 1934. Something so futuristic had never been seen before! The streamlined shape of this so-called diesel-three would determine the image of the railways in the Netherlands for several decades. Soon, electric train sets with this shape also appeared and, following the example of other countries, experiments were conducted with streamlined plating for steam locomotives.
"Stroomlijn op het spoor" offers the reader a unique view in color and black and white of Dutch railway equipment from the 1930s and early 1940s, from construction to decommissioning and finally demolition. Well-known railway photographers have contributed to the book by making spectacular, often unknown photos available.
